    Hi there,

I'm not sure if this has been posted before and I do apologise if it has already. I am posting on behalf of my friend who is having a bit of an issue at the moment. She is using an Acer Travelmate 2300 and the other day I put a CD into the laptop with the hope of copying files across. Unfortuately this didn't happen and now the CD is stuck in the CD-ROM drive. By this, I mean the drive won't open at all. I have tried pressing the button on the CD-ROM drive and also trying to eject it from My Computer but to no avail.

    Can anyone help please?

There is a mechanical release. Straighten a paperclip and push it in the small hole in the front of the optical drive (the hole is probably near the release button). You should hear a click and the drawer should slightly open. If not, gently pull on the drawer while pulling on the release. The cause may be that the disc wasn't properly seated - I always manually spin the disc before closing the draw to check that it is sitting OK.
