    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a site thats has tutorials or descriptions of ways to take apart laptops. I want to open up my Aspire 1800 but i get to a certain point and i can't figure out why the top won't come off; maybe i left a screw in both i've double checked and i can't find it. I want to see if i can upgrade my x600 PCI express card (even though someone from Acer told me it wasn't).

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

p.s I've already been to this site:

    http://www.eserviceinfo.com/equipment_mfg/acer_43.html

But it still didn't help me.

I don't have a site for you, but other users on this site (with this unit) indicated that the X600 GPU was not removable in this unit. I don't think there's a unit out there that has a removable X600 GPU (could be wrong).

    Venombite thanks for the reply.

If anyone has taken their laptop apart to view the ATI card, did you have to take out all the screws on top of the laptop as well as the bottom ones? cause i can't seem to get the keyboard and touch pad section off, it only seperates about half way then it won't budge.

I'll look around to see if i can find what people have said with regards to the card being not removable. Does anyone know if it's chip is soldered onto the motherboard or if its just the unit that's soldered on to the board.

I've had my aspire 1800 reduced to lots of little pieces......
The x600 is solderd/fixed to the mainboard and you can't upgrade it.
(i took a few pics but don't know how to show them here)
    to get your keyboard off,
look closely at the panel above it that has the power switch and function keys on it. i lifted this up by getting a small screwdriver between the nuber pad minus key and the panel and prising it up, it goes with a bit of a pop, you can then prise it up all of the way along to the escape key and lift it off. then you will find three screws along the top edge of the keyboard.

don't blame me if you break it though, it scared me silly doing it.

    Thanks Venombite,

I was away for the holidays so i couldn't respond faster. I'll try not to break anything when i take apart again. Thank you all for your help.
