My girl friend got an acer 5630 with nvidia go 7300 graphics. I've tried about 3-4 different svga to composite adapters to get tv out working and the best I can get is black and white. All the others did not work. Anyone know which converters work with these laptops? The b&w one had four pins in it, all the others were complete.

Can't you just use an s-video cable to connect the acer to the tv?

I am not sure if that is possbile. I have an Acer and it doesn't have an S-video port. I tried a VGA to s-vid converter but nothing happened.

Perhaps you've got the on the wrong video input channel. Cycle through the AV channels and see. I think the problem is however is that the adaptor or the port on the TV is damaged. If you can definitely see B & W and not any colour then some of the pins somewhere are obviously damaged.

Hmmm, this is very weird, I didn't know there still are notebooks without an s-video port.

Maybe it is outputting PAL and you want NTSC or vice versa.

Yep, it's a pretty rubbishly laptop, but there's like a raised circle where the s-vid should obviously go, it even has TV-out written about it, but for some reason it was not included. Presumably it uses the same chassis as higher end notebooks which have this feature.

There is no SVideo port on the tv, or I would not have even asked the question.

It does have a SVideo port and it does work with one connector, it's gray and only has 4 pins in it. It also only produces black and white picture.

The tv only has one composite connection, it's set up right, it even says video in big bold red letters on the tv.

I had the same issue with all the nvidia agp cards I've ever used. None will work with a 6 pin svideo to composite connector. (Edit 7pin)

It's really stupid to have a svideo port on a laptop and it not work with ntsc tv's. I wonder if a newer nvidia drive would fix it.

Just to give everyone a heads up, only 4 pin svideo to composite adapters will work. But in some cases you need a 9 pin brake out box. I've also read that you need to force settings for composite in the configure options. I'll try all this out once I get a chance too and let you know how I make out.
