    Hi,
I would like to use my TV as a monitor for my Acer 5101 laptop. Do I need to set my laptop up in anyway or maybe a short cut via the F keys.
    Thanks for any help.

    Does the laptop have S-Video?

I believe there is a key combination, Fn-F5 but I have never used it. I have seen people just enable it as a second monitor in Display Properties or make it the primary monitor

Thanks for your reply, the laptop has a D-sub 15 pin connector and a audio jack plug.

you only use the Fn keys if you have another moniter.if you are using a connected via the S-Video you use display settings and set your TV this way.

i have an intel programme that sets up my s-video for me and i don't need to use the Fn keys.

When i used to setup the TV with my laptop i would go into the ATI and set it to "extended desktop". so that I could use my laptop and move the mouse over to the TV.

But, really all its good for is watching shows unless your TV has good resolution. But even at that most TVs would be using an S-video connection.

To actually use a TV as a monitor, the TV itself would need a d-sub or HDMI input with the corresponding output from your laptop.

once you have the connections taken care of, its purely a software issue of enabling it.

You definitely need a HDMI cable and port on your laptop and TV (TV must be HD ready). Using S-Video output is only ok for watching a movie. So when you connected the HDMI cable, just press Fn+F5.
