    Hi,

CPU-Z is showing that my T9400 occasionally changes to either 10 or 10.5 multiplier. SiS Sandra Lite also lists it as a 2.79GHz processor.

I thought it was locked down at 9.5. Guessing it's due to it being an ES... Is there a way to control it?

    Cheers

    Google "intel IDA".

    Yes.

But if you want to see if your multi is unlocked then do this:

Thanks for the heads up mate, I'll have a read up after lunch.

Thing is, I don't have any heat sensors so it's stupid (very very tempting) even to think about over-clocking it. Is there such thing as an external sensor you can slip under the heatstink? I'v seen similar on a desktop PC.

    I don't know.

So you got the ES with the sensor disabled?
That might also be why your multi is unlocked...since you have an early stepping.

Yeah unfortunately, was only £65 though which is a bargain just keeping it at stock, have just found an external sensor for a £5 which I might be grabbing if this can be done.

    Regarding what you said before.

    "BIT 15 = 1 <--Ratio Locked
    BIT 15 = 0 <--Extreme CPU or ES/QS"

Was that for 0x198 or 0x17 MSR (As below)

Sorry got a bit lost reading that thread.

Found the right clock generator using SetFSB, however if I move the slider up and press "Set FSB" it just resets back to normal. Probably locked in that case?

There is another guy on this forum who had the same problem.

I can't solve it. TME mode is disabled (unlocked). M/N programing is enabled.
All signs are go, but it doesn't work??

I would take apart the notebook and check with a DMM that the TME pin is connected to GND.

Looks like you might need a pin mod.

Damn! Thanks for your help though...I think I'll leave the pin method for the moment at least, I butchered 2 Playstation 2 boards just trying to solder mod chips on them.

Just switching over to the multiplying thing if any one can help.

In MSR, address 0x199 changes the maximum multiplier... my CPU by default is x10.5 which is. (I think that's under IDA)

    0x00000000 0x00004A23 (For both Cores)

Using CrystalCPUID I can change the multiplier from the drop-down box and actually see the change in MSR Tool at address 0x199. So it does work (it seems) in regard to changing the multiplyer.

However after running stress tests (ORTHOS) for some time while keeping CPU-Z open... I haven't seen it raise above 9.5!!! (Non-IDA default)

    Looking at address 0x17

    Registers EAX [31...0]
    0x90F4C923 (Hex)

    10010000111101 00 1100100100100011 (Binary)

Was posted the 15th BIT states if it's locked or not...

So is the binary meant to be counted like ---> or <----... if it's right to left as MSR Tool suggests (and I fear) then it's locked any way!! lol!

Yes it's read right to left. And sorry to say your multi is locked.

CrystalCPUID will let you change to 10.5 because of IDA, but you can't go higher.

Also IDA only lets you have one core enabled at that frequency, so it's not really good.
