:nah: I created a restore point at 2:30 p.m., I opened System Restore at 2:35 to be told "there are no restore points"! How is System Restore able to restore anything if restore points stored are unstored?

You should make image of the system using norton ghost or something similar for complete protection.System restore cannot save you most of times.

Are you running crap cleaner or something similar where there is a setting to delete restore points in order to free up HD space? A number of programs have that option.
