I remember a few weeks ago,one person was asking if the Acer ????? was strong enough to be carried around in a backpack at college.I was doing just that when...the strap of the bag I have broke and the thing fell to the ground.I have the original foam packaging,
that came with the unit in the box,in the bottom of my backpack so it was well protected but it seems it fell on the protected corner and then did swing hitting the other corner and...visually there's barely anything but when I did try to open it,the lock mecanism was stiff because the plastic screen's frame was off a bit.I did press it back in place and everything was fine until...yesterday,6 days after it happen,I noticed something.
On the side where it hit, there's a stripe on the screen(from top to bottom) that is one inch away from the border and one inch wide.To describe the stipe I would say, there's one row of pixels that is darker than normal, the next row is fine, the next one is darker, the next one is fine, and so on.
Last,if I bend the corner that has been hit, everything comes back to normal, the stripe disappear. The cover isn't bent.It looks as straight as an arrow.
    Any ideas???Thanks!

Call support and say it is messing up....if there is no visible damage, see if they will replace it. No hurt in trying. You didn't hear that from me though. ;)

I know exactly what you are talking about except I did not drop my laptop. It was only 3 days old. it happened during the second day. I turned it on and while I was on the phone with tiger direct (returning the laptop because of wrong product being shipped) I saw a band of stripes located at the right hand side of the screen. about 1.5 inches in diameter. I cant see it while the screen is being blanked. Just dont know what happened or how it got there.

Well..mine is getting worse now, the stripe is...all kind of colors, sometimes the good colors but all fazed and sometimes it could be solid white or solid balck.I even seen solid red while booting it up.But again, just prying the corner upward and everything comes back to normal.I really needed that kind of s...

I did e-mail them today.Being during the Holidays...don't expect an answer anytime soon.Now...it seems obvious that the problem is probably not in the screen.Seems that stripe is "over" the information. The information on the screen is then always O.K. but the stripe do hide it.Since RUK had the same problem and it is located at the very same spot(in fact, just between the 2 right hinges)and since I use the notebook 3 hours everyday and it took 6 days before I did notice it,then...I think the fact it fell, has nothing to do with the problem.
