I spilled my beer on my Acer Travelmate 8200 keyboard

Yes, I know, I know

However I am using an external keyboard and the machine runs like normal, which is a good thing !

The weird thing is the laptop keyboard itself works on the right hand side, but not the left ?? I would have thought the whole thing would either be working or not ?

I know I'm prob gonna have to buy another keyboard which is not a problem, but can anybody explain :

A: why only one side is functional, and,

B: How do I go about installing the keyboard myself (I searched the net and could find no instructions).

    Many Thanks :notworthy:

The drink residue is probably gumming up the electronics.

There's a small chance that you can resurrect the keyboard by taking it out and giving it a good bath and a scrub, then rinsing it with clean water and allowing ti to dry fully.

I don't know about Acer keyboards, but most notebook keyboards are held in place by some screws on the bottom of the notebook (sometimes marked with a 'K') and some small catches around the edge. There's also a ribbon cable to disconnect once you have got the keyboard loose.

cleaning the keyboard so it works like it did before is highly unlikely. because so much of it does not currently work, even if you give it the best of cleanings, it won't be restored to its former glory-basically, some keys will still not work. Ive replaced a couple laptop keyboards and as long as you have a compatible size, its not a big deal. ive gotten all mine off ebay, so keep your eyes open.

just be thankful that the rest of the notebook still works!

I tried opening up the laptop but since there is cables connecting both halves I immediately screwed it back together again !

Would the screws to release the keyboard be in that panel at the bottom you can take off ? The one that exposes the memory, fan, heat sink etc ?

    Cheers !
