Hello, I've recently bought an Acer Aspire 6930G and am overall very pleased with it.
However, in the few weeks since i've bought it there has been one concern I have had.

Whenever the laptop is unplugged from the mains, it starts to make a faint buzzing sound. The sound seems to come from the 'tube' near the subwoofer on the back (where the power socket is on one side, and the Kensington Lock is on the other side). The buzzing also only seems to be coming from the right side of the laptop above the number pad.
What is also strange is that i am able to stop the buzzing by tipping the laptop sideways or moving the screen. This seems to indicate that something might be vibrating, but again only when the power cord is unplugged?? lol

Like i say, i don't think its enough to take the laptop back (unless somebody tells me differently), but i am concerned enough to ask on here if anyone with the same or similar laptop has any ideas as to why this might be happening.

    thanks :)

please focus your imagination on issues that need fixing.
As the saying goes "If it ain't broken don't fix it"

lol but is it broke or is it meant to make this noise? i've never heard anything like this before on my last laptop, and it only happens when its unplugged. trust me i'm just as puzzled as anyone else

Sounds weird, I have the a family member of that generation, 6930ZG (Almost same as 6930), and I have never heard a buzzing sound from the subwoofer.

But it doesent sound serious, because when you have it plugged in, you don't notice any problems. You could try to reinstall the audio-driver :p?

Hmm, I have figured out why it only does it when the AC adapter isn't plugged in. If I lower my backlight on the screen, I hear a little buzzing too. Never noticed before beacuse it isn't very loud!! But when I turn the light up again, it goes away.

    Weird.

thanks so much, the funny thing is i noticed that was when it buzzed yesterday too! the laptop is unplugged, the screen dims and then the buzzing starts. but if you have it aswel, then it can't be a serious problem, so thanks!! :) and yes, i am nearly always in a very quiet room unless i am with someone, so i must just notice it more haha!

I have found out it is the screen that's vibrating. When you notice it next time, put your hand on the backside of your laptop. Then it dissapears completely! A solution would be to put a sticker on it.

But nah, it doesen't bother me at all :p I always run on full backlight, even if I'm on battery, lol xD

yes, its all coming together now lol and thanks again for looking into this! :) i did think it was a vibration, but because it sounded like buzzing you instantly think ELECTRICAL FAULT! lol.

i have noticed it goes when you put your hand on it, so like you say now i know what it is the noise doesn't bother me at all anymore either. still, seeing as i havn't altered any settings for battery power yet, i think i might just end up making my screen brighter on battery power haha. its strange that brightness makes a difference though!

    thanks!
