So I recently picked up an Acer 5630-6317. I thought it came with a SATA drive but I have a Hitachi HTS541212H9AT00, according to Hitachi's website it's a PATA. Everest and PC Wizard also say it's a ATA-100 drive. However, it's attached to an Intel 82801GBM/GHM Serial ATA Controller.

How can my PATA drive be on a SATA controller?

most notebook hard drives are installed using an OEM interface of some form, each manufacturer usually prefering their own design! so it's probably connected via a converter\adaptor.
