In an effort to reduce my laptop's noise (ie, from fans) I have used RMClock to get the following numbers:

    4.0 @ 0.925V [Initial was 1.000V]
    8.0 @ 1.150V [Initial was 1.450V]

I have noticed a substantial reduction in fan noise at the higher speed, but obviously when I have it throttled down it doesn't make much difference. My main goal is to have the laptop in my room running iTunes through my sound system without fan noise (ie, at night with soft music).

I read some guys talking about Speedfan, but after taking a look at that software (and Everest) I ended up pretty confused. It seems you need to select what motherboard and chipset you have, but I have no idea of those! Do any of you knowledgeable people know?

If not, do you know of any other good ways to reduce fan noise under almost idle conditions?

    Thanks in advance, Luke

if u download everest home edition and install it, you can find out everything in ur computer

just click away and it'll tel u the motherboard and chipset etc.

then u can type that into speedfan

I have read a lot about noisy notebooks and my 5021 is fairly annoying even when idle. I often leave it downloading stuff overnight and the fan is starting to annoy me.

I use RM Clock to undervolt which helps when under load, but nothing beneficial when idle. Is there a way I can reduce the fan speed? I have tried everest and speedfan but they looked pretty complex.

Has anyone else managed to do this on an Acer machine, or a 5020 series specifically?

    Many thanks

even better - set ur CPU speed to minimum.

If ur just downloading, u don't need much CPU at all
