Hey there. I've got this Acer Aspire V3-551G notebook with the following specs:

    AMD Fusion (APU?) A8-4500M x4 @ 1.9 Ghz
    ATi Radeon 7670M (2GB GDDR3 dedicated) + AMD Radeon 7640G (512MB DDR3 shared) crossfire
    4GB DDR3 1333Mhz RAM (planned upgrade to 8GB)
    500GB SATA 5400rpm HDD

I've got some questions on the configuration I could not solve with Google searches.

    • Why is my processor (according to CPU-Z) working at 23xx Mhz instead of 19xx Mhz?
    • How do I use the dedicated GPU only in the Dual Graphics config?
    • Will increasing the RAM led to an increase in the amount of memory in the 7640G?

There is Turbo Core available in this unit that in certain situations can bump up the speed to 2.8GHz

As for the other questions unfortunately I have no knowledge of how these AMD graphic setups work in detail so I will let others more competent users answer these questions.

    1) As downloads said, pretty much most CPUs can TurboBoost to a higher clock in certain situations. Though this is usually a trade-off between core clock and number of active cores, ie two cores running at 1.9GHz or one core running at 2.3GHz (running both at 2.3GHZ would cause excess heat that could damage the laptop).

    2) Have you checked your notebook's BIOS? There might be a switch in there that allows you to disable the integrated GPU. However, I don't have personal experience with any of the APUs.

    3) Possibly, though again I don't have personal experience. Getting higher-clocked memory for your notebook would noticeably improve the integrated GPU performance. I'm guessing you currently have either 1333MHz or 1600MHz RAM installed; getting 1866MHz RAM will help out more than more RAM (assuming you already have 8GB).

I have 4GB RAM, and the motherboard limits it to 1600 Mhz (I have 1333 Mhz now). Thanks for the Turbo thing. And in the BIOS, I found the option to have
    a) 7670M+7640G
    b) only 7640G
I need to get only 7670M.
    PS: Can I have 8GB RAM in this way?: 1x 4GB 1333Mhz +1x 4GB 1600Mhz

You can have that sort of RAM configuration, but you'll be slowed down to 133MHz.

Oh. I'll get 1333 memory then. Thanks!
