I recebtly got an Acer Aspire 5315. I came with vista and the store I bought it from replaced it with XP Pro. It does not like to shut down, hibernate, or stand by. I cannot think of what could be the problem. Can someone help me? :(

using extremely technical descriptions of your problem like "It does not like to..." ensures that everybody knows exactly what is going on. the answers will soon flow.

. what happened when u try to "make" it shutdown, hibernate or standby?
. how did u try to "make" it shutdown, hibernate or standy?
. message coming back saying "No way"?
. or was there clearer messages?
. or did it just "ignore" what u were trying to do to it to "make" it shutdown, hibernate or standy?

    cheers ...

It got to yhe screens that say "preparing to stand by" and "Windows is shutting down" and then it stops right there and nothing happens. So I have to push in the power button and restart it. This is the only problem I have had with it. Everythin else works fine.

i would take a wild shot and venture to say that either some settings in ur bios prevented this, or ACPI setting is out of whack

    cheers ...

I took it back to the store I bought it from and the guy who was working on it said it was something with an application. I am going to pick it up tomorrow morning.

    u must be joking?

well, like i mentioned above, look for bios update if they have it (if not check ur bios settings), get ur xp uptodate, review ur chipset driver, check ur computer properties (ACPI)

    cheers ...

On my Ferrari I had a similar problem that was due to a faulty memory module.

Try operating the computer with only one of the memory modules, trying each one in "slot 1" and having "slot 2" empty.

Umm, well, i had a problem like that too. my aspire hang on the shut down screen.
It was some trouble with the drivers, i think i installed chipset twice and just had to uninstall it. Then the shutting down sequence went smootly.
Hope this helps, try updating your drivers and or reinstall bunch of them :)

    - Get an xp cd.
    - Format ur HD clean
    - Reinstall fresh
    - Install all drivers n stuffs

    - If u have ubuntu, see if Ubuntu likes to shut down too. ;)

You have to disable the option "let this device wake up system" from the usb root in control panel-system-device manager (i think it´s the last usb, just check energy tab and you´ll find the camera, disable it and reboot, must shut down well after that)

Sorry for my English and good luck!!!

for me my XP Pro did not go into hibernate or stand-by on initial installation until i installed the chipset drivers. WinXP didnt auto-dectect everything.
