I have an Acer 3003WLMI and I now have a problem with it.Let say I plug in my card reader and slide in my CF card from the digital camera so when all the files are on the screen I select them all and then want to transfer them in a folder in the D section but I click on D...nothing happen.I see just below the D there's that "Naomi 2" folder that is there but nothing else so it seems I'm stuck to transfer stuff to only that folder.Any idea how to unstuck this? Thanks!

have you tried making a new folder in D: and then drag and drop in to that ?
can you copy the files to a folder on desktop. then moving that to D:

Will try that. What I did so far is to...delete the folder and then ,it's clear I can tranfer the file to nay other folder. But,since that "Naomi 2 " folder is something I don't want to loose then I did right click on it to restore it back and the problem happen again.Seems I will have to rename it?

you could move the folder someplace else and rename it...

even though it "should" work out ok..
please don't get in a habit of using the recycle bin as a place to store those NEEDED photos while you are transfering new photos into the laptop..

make a different folder and MOVE all those files in it
then after verifying that the picturers are in the NEW folder....
delete the TROUBLESOME FOLDER (it should be empty from moving files)

    just a thought

Well... I thought I had solve my problem by renaming that infamous "Naomi 2 " folder but no...every time I save something to a folder in my D drive,I'm stuck with that last folder saved to.The only way to unjam it is or to rename that folder or to save something to the C drive then,it clears thing and I can now click on "D drive" and get access to all the folders I have in the D drive. Is this a laptop problem or Windows XP problem... or else???Thanks!

sounds like some really strange registry setting that has gotten all crossed up

and if the card reader works... then it's an OS problem

    Always blame MS...

Curiously,if I only use the C drive, everything works like brand new.I can save to any folder I have there without problem all the time.

yes,you can....,, you should have no problem saving anything there unless you fill up the C: partition size limit... what ever size it is

    EDIT

unless you have installed software to the D drive or have installed software and specifically chosen the D: drive as it's default storage location... but you should still be able to over ride such inconvineces

take a look in disk management. just incase this shows some thing.
it sounds like a formate problem (fat32, NTFS).
and is the D: partition active ? (should be )

There is still 13 GB of free space in the D: drive. When you format a drive,to you loose everything there is in it?

yep. format will wipe that drive clean.
but that is a last resort to your problem.

i now have a link file that covers 90% of problems posted on the acer board. but i only look for ones with the fix.
i enjoy researching problems and have now got an external HDD full of copied pages from the net and this forum.
its turned in to a hobby. :D

Well...I did solve the problem.I did delete 60 folders(out of maybe 200) I had in the D: drive and now,I can move or copy files in the D: drive at will like it should.Since there was still 13 GB of free space(before I did delete the 60 folders)it's my guess that you're kind of limited as to how many folders one can have in a drive and when you get beyond that number then, you get stuck with the last one used.I'm using Windows XP Professional.

hoggie.... its related to an old FAT16 (maybe a fat32) limitation....

there are only 512* slots for files or folders in the root directory...
