Guys, I am having problems with my HDD spinning down while playing games or while typing using Microsoft Word 2003.

Im using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and I have set the Power Options for the HDD spindown to "Never" (so the system shouldn't turn it down) but regardless, its spinning down even while being used while gaming!

I just hear a little "click" and then it spins up again. During the time it spinned down, the game is having 1-2 seconds lag, then its back up again. While typing on Skype and MS Word, sometimes the display freezes for 2-3 secs and after that the words come out all at once...

Its very annoying, I googled for a solution, but found only solutions for MacOS. Other people experience problems like this with their external USB drives, but this is my Laptop's internal drive and everything that is installed depends on it entirely. So when it spins down, the system is unresponsive for 2-3 seconds.

The HDD is a Toshiba one, 640GB and its set from the BIOS to IDE mode. How can I stop this "Spin-Down" feature? I really am very upset, its annoying as hell while gaming! :( :(

You can try QuietHDD to disable APM. That may help.

I downloaded a CrystalDiskInfo3_10_0.zip packed program and this seems to have done the job....I disabled the AAM and APM features so the HDD doesent turn off now. I'm happy, thanks for the reply anyways.
