    Hi All

Newb here looking at buying a new laptop. Ive seen similar prices here in the UK for the 5024WLMi (LX.A4605.174) and 5022WLMi (LX.A4605.176) around the £600 mark but am wondering which to go for. The main differences appear to be that the 5024 has the faster 1.8 Turion CPU, whereas the 5022 only has the 1.6 but comes with a 100Gb HDD and 1Gb RAM as opposed to 80Gb and 512Mb.

I am tempted slightly more by the 5022 as I'd like 1Gb RAM from the off and extra HDD space is always a nice-to-have, but was wondering whether the CPU was upgradeable if I need to in future? Ive seen a comment on here that the 5024 is upgradeable to an MT-40 Turion (2.2Ghz), I assume both laptops probably have the same chassis and motherboard etc so suspect this upgrade comment is equally applicable to the 5022, but I wondered if anyone can confirm this? Are the BIOS upgrades launched seperately for each model or does one BIOS update all the 5020 series machines?

    thanks :)

    Chris

The bios releases are the same for all 502x series, even for the 302x are the same.

The only changes between 5024 and 5022 are in the installed components. You can upgrade your memory, hard drive and CPU. Graphic cards can't be upgraded.

So if the graphic card is the same, and with the same ammount of graphic memory on both models, you can go for the cheaper one.

Cheers, when doing a side by side comparison of the spec sheets they are identical, it just comes down to a choice between slightly inferior CPU but 100Gb HDD/1Gb RAM (and an additional £30), or faster CPU but only 80Gb HDD and half a gig of RAM (with a £30 saving). Ideally I would like the best of both worlds with the faster CPU and larger HDD/RAM but they don't seem to do a model with that spec.

My current thinking is that Im unlikely to notice / need the extra 0.2Ghz of CPU power in the forseeable future so would probably be better off spending the extra £30 to get more RAM and a better HDD from the off.

The CPU difference is small if any depending on what you are doing.

    LX.A4605.174
    LX.A4605.176

I would go for the .176 with the slower CPU, more memory and larger hard drive...

The most difference between those two models is definitely the memory. 1Gb is almost necessary for smooth multitasking. The difference between 512Mb and 1Gb is alot bigger than 1.6 and 1.8GHz.

Yep, similar to my thoughts, just wanted to ensure I could upgrade the CPU in future if required, and it sounds likely.

    cheers

Hmm, just found the 5024 on eBuyer for £545, making a larger £55 difference between that and the best price for the 5022 (the 5022 on eBuyer is £700!). Makes the balance more even once again

    Hi there,

I am looking for an ATI X700 laptop with a bright screen. I think this the Acer 502x looks a good option too.

However have you seen the Acer page on the difference, from the comparison table it would appear the 5024 has an X700 graphics card and the 5022 has a X600 which from my point of view is a significant difference.

However a lot of the sites don't seem to have the correct details, like laptopsdirect for example.

I have recently bought an HP nx8220 from Misco because it looked like an exceptionally sweet deal with a screen of 1680x1050 and an ATI X600 with 128Mb of ram.

After ordering, I did some more searching on the manufacturer code and found that its actually a 1280x800 screen and 64mb graphics card.

Its still a great laptop, but not what Misco made it out to be!

So regarding the Acer I would go for the LX.A4605.174 (5024)

One question I have about the Aspire is noise.. anyone know if they are noisy??

Well, the main thing you have to look at aren't 5022 or 5024 numbers, but the codes behind them (like LX.A4605.174)

My girlfriend has a 5024 (LX.AA505.010) which has a x700 256mb. So, watch for the codes...

After some undervolting with RM Clock Utility, they are silent, fan starts only after extensive gaming or photoshopping :)

I see many of you people used some settings I can't figure out
(i have an Acer Aspire 5024WLMi:
    AMD Turion™ 64 ML-34 processor (1MB L2 cache, 1.8 GHz, 400MHz), Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition SP2, 15.4TFT WXGA Acer CrystalBrite, 512MB RAM (2x256), 80GB HDD, DVD Dual double layer (slot), LiIon, 56K modem, Wired Gigabit Lan & Wireless 802.11b/g, no FDD, 128MB ATI X700, 6-in-1 card reader)

    So My questions:

Cool and Quiet (how do I turn it off?)

AMD PowerNow (how do I turn it off?)

    and the biggest question
RM Clock I don't know how to configure this thing, can someone make some screens how he did it(of every single tab he changed something in)? for also his 5024?

    Thx in forward
