I'm a student who's looking for a laptop to use for only note taking, web browsing, and other low power programs. The most I might use out of a laptop is multi tabbed browsing (I already have a desktop replacement for gaming :p ). Anyway, I saw the laptop Acer 5810 Aspire Timline today at Sam's Club for a cheap $497 (Seems like other places including internet sites sell them for $520 to $590). All the specs were pretty nice and the battery life looked great! The only thing that really let me down was the processor. It uses and SU intel processor, meaning it's a meant for low volt usage. In addition, it runs at a measly 1.3ghz! Do you think I can overclock it to atleast 1.6 - 18?

yes you can overclock to 1.8ghz.
you will have to increase the voltage.

Are you planning on overclocking with setfsb?

Ah, I see that's good to know! Thanks! And yes, I was planning to use setfsb. BTW, I have to increase voltage.... That sounds scary.... I probably need to have another program don't I?

It's not scary, but it will make your CPU hotter.

You do need to download another program, I would either follow the undervolting guide (but you would increase the votage instead of decreasing).

Or try some software called crystal CPUID.

I can help you with all three programs (setfsb, RMclock and crystal CPUID) if you want.

Also if you're interested there is a way to increase the voltage with a hardware mod, I can give you a link to a very very good guide.

Ah!... Ok! Cool! Thank you for the offer! However, one more question, is raising it to a higher clock worth it on the 5810. I don't know how intel core 2 mobile single core processors work (Low bus speeds, low cache, etc.).

Would this be somewhat good on a ULV processor? Would performance be noticeable?
