I wanted to know what is the recommended speed for the AMD 64 Turion for laptops. I have an acer aspire 5044NWLCi and the bios is reading the processor speed as 3.0GHz. Could the processor have been overclocked because it is producing a lot of heat, way hotter than other notebooks having the same processor.

Sounds like an error, that would be a pretty ridiculous clock speed. What kind of temperature you getting.

Also run CPU-z and tell us what your clock is registered at. Use SpeedFan to get the temepratures.

    I have a 5044 with Turion (ML-34). Everything shows it as 1.8

    It doesn't get that hot.

(which by the way, seems pretty zippy to me - though I don't run any games)

I also have a 5044WLMI and it's running at 1.8 with CPU temp of roughly 50C

I would not bother to over clock it. Also the 5040 series come with a 2.0ghz cpu maximum as far as I know.

maybe it could be something with your bios try flashing the bios with a newer one from the support website that will solve it cuz as many have said earlier its a bit insane to have overclocked cpu and that too at that speed by default
    cheers,
