I have an almost 3 years old Acer 3003 WLMI and the battery was getting weaker(in fact these batteries are weak even when new) this Spring so since I was sure the laptop wasn't to last for long anymore,I did buy and APC outside battery pack.It was in special and did wind up paying a little bit less than the cheapest price you can buy a new battery for it online. Now,the original battery is down to 15 min. of use after being fully charged.I wonder if it would be a bad idea to charge the outside battery, plugged in the laptop but with the Acer battery being removed from the laptop?I don't see the point to charge the Acer battery anymore.

Yeah, you can remove the battery if it doesn't help. It won't do anything bad to the system, so you should be OK. If there is a power outage, though, even a 15-minute battery would serve you well as a backup power solution.

i'd make some kinda plate or something to cover the battery bay...

if something accidentially shorted those battery connector pins you could end up frying a motherboard,, or maybe just a charging board if that model has a seperate power board between the battery and the main board

Li ion batteries have a certain lifespan that WON'T change. It doesn't matter if you don't use it, it still will decay. So it makes sense that you should get a new one after 3 years, right?
