My DVD RW Drive on my laptop is showing like a No entry sign and I am unable to use it. Also if I plug an mp3 in it also shows the no entry sign and says the device is locked...If I right click on the drive it shows 2 things under disk drives. The one that shows as my CD/DVD writer looks as though it isn't my default. If I look in device manager it isn't either. How do I change this?

    Any ideas?

One shows Hitachi HTS541212H9AT00 ATA Device (Type Disk Drive) the other that isn't ticked is a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T10N ATA Device.

Try uninstalling the optical drive in Device Manager then letting Windows redetect it (just go to the top of the list in Device Manager, right click and select Detect New Hardware - quicker than rebooting). That may flush the problem.

You could also try giving the secondary IDE channel the same treatment.

That hasn't done the trick. It has like a No Entry signal over the top of the icon and will not let me use the drive...
