Acer doesn't provide any CDs. Instead you get a D2D Recovery Partition, and by using ACER eRecovery(usually preinstalled) you can make your own Recovery CDs/DVDs.

No you have 10GB hidden recovery partition on your HDD. After you install vista and all the acer utilities you can burn recovery DVDs.

My eRecovery had two options - one to burn a system restore disc to bring it back to the factory default state, and another to just burn all the drivers & utilities that came with the system in case you need them.

Call Acer and have them send you a recovery CD/DVD.

It's not stated anywhere in the Acer box, but you can ask them for it for free within 90 days of your machine purchase (don't know about shipping).

Fact is when you purchase a machine, you are entitled to a hard copy of windows (assuming your os is windows).

    Good Luck.

you are give the option to burn the OS disk(bootable)
when you start your new laptop. you get a nagg/popup as soon as the laptop is up and running.
this is now standard practice with 99% of machine manufactures.

if you intend to play about with your hard drive. you will need the recovery disk if it all goes wrong

its up to you to burn these disk. if you choice not too then why should Acer bail you out ?

That's not the point here. Even though it is becoming a standard practice, that doesn't make them right.

i.e. getting pirated software using torrents is becoming a standard, but that doesn't make getting pirated software right.

Because, they are required to provide you with a hard copy of M$ windows if they decide to put M$ windows into their machines. It's not so much as to bailing out.

Anyway, I'm just providing some info. If one insist on not calling to get what is rightfully his/her's, that's one's choice. Acer is depending on this too. That's why Acer didn't put that in on the info cards and what not. After the 90 days if one wants to get recovery discs, one has to pay for it.

make you right on the OS issues but acer have a way of saying " did you get a screen asking you to burn OS disk. as it set to show every ten mins while the laptop is on.
and it states on that screen you should burn them ASAP as this will be your copy of windows". if you turn your laptop over you will see the serial key for your copy.

purchased three acer laptops in the last year and all had the same nagg/popup screen the first time i started them up. Thats called covering your behind. :D

did a bit of asking about you have a hard copy of windows on your HARD DRIVE.
its down to you to copy it to disk.
    end of subject :D
    all the best,
    Phil :D
