Hi guys, can you set me right on where i am going wrong/have been told to do by others?
My Acer came with Vista, which i upgraded via acer to win 7. I now need to fit a new hard drive for which i have bought an upgrade copy of win7 as i have the original vista key i though i would be able to install this on a virgin drive as a full install. Having instaled the full version it will not accept the licence key that came with the new disk, it doesnt even get to the registering stage, just setting up the pc username and password, then the key, then it falls over, anyone any idea?
All in all i have a valid vista key, a valid acer upgrade to win 7 key and a new win 7 upgrade key, is there any way to install this on a fresh HD on my current laptop?
Apologies for the noobie style question.
cheers

now this is just me, or what i would do, maybe a better or quicker way is out there,& I am not telling you that this is the ONLY way to do it.
I would clone your original existing, since upgraded "via acer" Win 7 Hard Drive w/ some Disc clone software of your choice, I use "Acronis" personally. Very user friendly. Does not matter if the HD sizes are different. -

Have you two issues here ?
First is the activation failing because it sees the new HD as different hardware for some reason.
The license key on an upgrade DVD as far as I know will allow you to clean install. I have done that with Vista, W7 is the same. You have to install it twice...
