    Hey guys,
I want to reformat my girlfriend's Acer 5720, however it didn't come with a fresh copy of Vista like my Dell XPS m1530, so I was wondering if I use my disc and use her OEM code, if it would work. I wouldn't want to install it and then all of a sudden it doesn't work. Also as a would you suggest having around 50 gig as her C-Partition because I did that for mine and I'm wondering if it's enough.

Also finally I'm taking a gig chip out of my laptop (3 gig) and putting it in her's to make 2 gig, just wondering if my Vista will take a performance hit?

Ok tried it and the Dell disc didn't work at all, Windows didn't see it and it would boot to the disc either.

I guess it may be OK to download a copy of Windows Vista from "known" sources. If your in posession of a valid Serial N°, it shouldn't matter where the disk is coming from.
I had the same problem and had asked Acer to send me a physical installation medium. They didn't want to. They wanted to send me a Recovery CD/DVD for €50,00 though. That's a really bad joke IMHO. Not customer friendly at all.
This DVD should have been provided with the lappy normally.
I really don't understand those manufacturers anymore, is just to save some pennys? Would they die shipping a medium with the hardware they sell?

So essentially the upgrade (any-time vista upgrade) CD is useless right?

No it's not, unless it's tied to your Dell (OEM version). Since Vista there's only 1 DVD now for all flavours of the OS. Only the serial N° decides about which flavour will be installed on your PC (IIRC).
And at least it should work work normally to install without all the "added value" (not  ) stuff. Even if you wiped off the hidden partition or whatever.

Btw., 50GB for the "C:\" partition should be plenty enough. Keep your/her personal files on the other partition and all will be good in case of a system failure i.e.

I dunno why but the Dell disc refuses to load on her laptop ...

Oh well she's enjoying your 2 gig and Vista runs well so I guess reformatting will come later on.
