    I just got this http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/specs.aspx?EDC=824710
yesterday. It's my first laptop, and so far, so good, except that it won't for some reason let me burn the backup dvd that it prompts me to burn when I log on...at first I thought it was old media (a 1x cd) but I went out and bought 4x dvds today and it won't work on them either. This could be me, not the computer, and I have done the backup to the partitioned part of the hd...anybody else have this problem or suggestions?

I have to say that cdw was terrific to buy from and will do phone tech support but thought I'd see if anybody had encoutered this.

The computer asks you as a default every time you log on to burn a backup cd or dvd of the factory setttings instead of sending backup disks. To do it, you just click on the message, but I did try doing it with the included nti dvd and cd software, but that failed as well. I tried both cd and dvd. I can play a cd; haven't tried to burn one. CDW makes itself available for help (they really impressed me as a reseller...I'd use them again in a heartbeat) but not 'til Monday.

A 1x CD? How long has that been laying around? What are the new discs you bought now? Media quality varies greatly. What is says on the outside of the box is no indication of who made them or whether it is any good. I would recommend Taiyo Yuden blank DVDs. They are the best you can buy. You can get them at places like rima.com. If you would like to try some different software, CPBurnerXP is free and works well for the basic stuff. You can get an OEM copy of Nero, the best burning software, for $10 or less on ebay. You might want to see if there are any firmware or ide driver updates. Drive might be bad. Been known to happen. Good Luck.

That 1x cd had been around a looooong time. The DVD was a sony4x. I need to hit best buy or circuit city today to pick up a mini mouse anyway--I can't figure out how to drag and drop with a touchpad--so will look at more up to date media then. I hope the drive' not bad.

FujiFilm blank DVDs sold at BestBuy marked Made in Japan are TYs. I would highly recommend them.
