I bought the aspire 3680 last night, and wiped it clean and installed xp pro on one partition (NTFS).

only 2 drivers seem to be missing, and its running perfectly how it is, although i need 2 drivers. if anyone has info on where i can download them from, it would be greatly appreciated.

    -Ethernet Controller
-Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus
    -Video Controller

these are the only two in the "Other Devices" category in device manager. if you know where i can find them, please reply ASAP.
    Thanks alot!

    just install the driver manually

when you extract the downloaded file

click start then find control panel

    click switch to classic

    click system

click on the hardware tab and then device manager

Right Click on 'your device not Speedtouch' , this may be found under 'Other devices' or 'Modem'

Select 'Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)' option

Put a tick into 'Include this location' and select browse button

select the location where you extract the downloaded driver

    click next

wait for it to finish then click Finish button

Thanks for idea, Javamaniac. I was able to fix that ethernet thing on my Aspire 3680. Thanks to Evolution for the instruction on manual installation. It worked great. My last problem is to find the driver for the modem on HDA. I downloaded every driver from the acer-euro site.

The proper Driver for the HDA modem is the Agere Azalia modem... I just did it myself not more than 2 seconds ago and it worked like a charm. :D Thanks to everyone else here though who helped me figure the other driver issues!

Has anyone with the Aspire 3680 gotten the wireless card working with XP? What driver did you use for WLAN and modem?

Just pop the bottom centre cover off and read the brand on the main chips. The Wireless card in my 3680 is a broadcom, yours might be different. When I looked at mine it seemed obvious which was the wireless as various others had wires that went to recognisable spots- eg modem. It's closest to front from mem...
You need to take 2 srews out to get bottom cover off.
    Jim

I got mine working fine with XP. Just made sure what chips I had before getting drivers from Acer site. Work brilliant under XP, but was so so so slow with the original vista system. 3680 was unbearable slow with Vista, but is great with XP.

Great Thread - planning on getting a 3680-2682 in a couple hours. Plan on changing to XP Pro (after burning recovery disk set). Is there an order to load the drivers after reformatting the hard drive and installing XP and Service packs?

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum. The reason I'm posting is that I just bought an Acer 3680 and like so many others, I've erased the preloaded Vista Basic OS and re-loaded a previous version of Windows (XP Pro). Naturally, I'm having some problems:

    Problem List:
(1). Ethernet Controller: I have the Marvell Yukon Fast Ethernet Controller installed under Network Adapters and it works fine, but EVERYTIME I start my computer, it brings up the same message: "noticed new hardware/ Ethernet Controller, please install software, tell me where to look." Well, i just cancel it everytime since my ethernet connection seems to be working (i.e. me on the computer now). How can I get this to go away?

(2). Wireless LAN controller: I opened the bottom of the computer to look at what kind of modem I may have and all I could tell was that there was a small chip in the front that looked like it was close to the modem lights in the front of the computer. It said "Agere." What Wireless LAN driver do i use? The "user guide" says something about Intel PRO/ Wireless 3945 ABG and 3945 BG connections that support Acer SignalUp wireless tech. Then there's something else about an Acer InviLink 802.11 b/g Wireless solution supporing the Acer SignalUP technology ("for Aspire 3680/ 5570Z"). Does any body know HOW i can get (a) my wireless connection set back up, and (b) the light switches on the front of my computer to come back on (trigger-switches for wireless modem and bluetooth?).

(3). Video Controller: I have no idea why this keeps on popping up. My display looks like its perfectly fine, and I've updated to SP2 (if that matters). I followed the advice of one of the posts that said to re-install the chipset and it should go away. I did that, and I still get pop-up notices on system start up. Annoying to say the least.

Ok, I'd really appreciate any advice/help/pointers that anyone could give.
    Enjoy the weekend!

    -m

Oh, I should mention one last thing regarding the first problem (ethernet controller). For some reason, I installed the Atheros 802.11 Wireless LAN driver (v 4 2 2 ) thinking it might work. Well, it doesnt. But oddly enough, the Ethernet Controller Icon under my Device Manager/ Other devices went away (no more notice, no more question mark), as it was replaced by the Atheros AR5006X Network adapter (under Network Adapters, with an Exclamation mark). Do I just need to find the right Wireless LAN driver to (1) get my wireless back and (2) get rid of that dan-g ethernet controller message? -responses appreciated.

I called Acer tech support to find out why the FAX didn't work. They told me to call Acer Software support. 20 minutes and $52 later the said Vista didn't support it. I decided to install Windows XP. I captured all the driver information I could from Device manager and read the support forums before installing XP. Even with that preparation, I had a devil of a time getting the audio and the modem to work. I think the problem was that Vista identified the audio as Realtek, but the Realtek drivers didn't work. I had to use the ones labeled Audio Drivers.
I thought it might help to list the drivers I finally got to work and the order. Your machine might be different.
    1. Chipset Driver INtel 8.0.0.1009
    2. Touchpad driver 8.3.00
    3. VGA driver Intel6.14.10.454
    4. Wireless driver 802.abg Atheros Ver 5.3.0.45
    5. Lan Driver Marvel 8.55.4.3
    6. Card Reader 2.0.0.2
    7. Audio Driver 5.10.0.5273
    8. Modem driver 2.1.63.0

OK, I have had it with Vista...Did anyone have to do anything besides just popping in your windows xp pro cd?

I was told that this has a sata hard drive...do I need to load anything onto a "pre" cd or usb drive so I can put XP on here?

08Phantom, I did what you showed and it worked perfectly for me.
I downloaded from the Panam site. The audio driver was in a setup.exe and no problem. But the ethernet controler was in the DOS form, .sys and .inf.
I could only think of how it was done in DOS, but your pictures made it so easy.
Thanks for the time you spent. I had been stumped!

You should install the chipset first, vid drivers second, then the audio drivers...after that those it shouldn't real matter much.

    1-Chipset
    2-Video drivers
    3-Audio drivers

It has been awhile since changing the wife's 3680 to XP, but I remember having problems with the modem & Ethernet drivers. I believe (like cyhabu stated) I had to use vista drivers for the modem and it was hit or miss tell I found the right ethernet drivers.
