    Hey guys/gals,
I have somewhat of a problem, for the past 8 months or so ive been using my Ferrari 4005 and it was always in fat32 and i never bothered to change ,mine came 120gb from retailer. But now im getting really frustrated and would like to switch to ntfs, my question is can i get a windows xp home cd and clear upp the hdd format it and install xp using the windows key thats in the back of my lappy. The drivers are available at acer's site, so is there any downfall in doing this if so please do let me know. And i never really used acers erecovery junk ever.

    Thanks in advance

The only downfall to switching to NTFS is that you won't be able to use Acers eRecovery to create a back-up of the hidden Recovery Partition.

    Hey Nicolin,
That is not too bad im assuming, I mean if i do run into problems i dont mind reformatting and installing xp and all the drivers all over again. But will the blutooth still work correctly?

    Thanks

AWPeration, as long as you have ALL the needed drivers then you shouldn't have any problems. In any case, you can burn a Recovery CD/DVD before you format the drive NTFS. You know, just in case.

But if i dont delete the hidden partition and keep it and use the rest of the HDD space as NTFS. If i do decide to restore to facoty settings, all i would need to do is reformat the HDD back to FAT32 using my linux and then use the DVD eRecovery to restore to FAT32. The hidden partition is equivalent to the backup dvd?

Why not just covert to NTFS instead of going through all of the re-formatting?

From a command promt type: convert C: /fs:ntfs

It's funny you would mention that.
I had an earlier inquiry about converting the way you suggested. (I've done it in the past on desktops).

Unless I'm mistaken, the problem with that is you end up with a very small cluster size (like 512 Bytes) rather than the default setting of 4KB that you would get with a clean install of XP.

In some cases this can cause a performance hit....and it appears the only way to change the cluster size to 4KB is to use a third party software like Partition magic.

If someone knows a way to do this conversion within XP and avoid this problem, I'm all ears.
