First of all, a huge round of thanks to all the people that have contributed positively to the Acer forum. We wan't this spot to offer the soundest, best advise out on the WWW for Acer. Bar none. Special thanks to Hoggie for the motivation for me to actually start this thread (I beat you to it mate :p ).

This thread is under construction but it's aim is to show the world and give special recognition to:

    1. Good Acer folks that are always there to help. The plan is to give you guys the respect you deserve. I have noticed that rep points are few for some of the members that give the best advice and in turn get no or little thanks.

    2. People that request help from the Acer forum and then have the decency to thank the member(s) for their efforts when their problems are resolved.

Plenty of the forum members go out of their way to truly help resolve a problem with sensible and wise advise.

I am truly honoured to be a member of this forum. Lets see it grow from strength to strength.

    Cheers,
    Theo

To start the ball rolling, here we go:

"Well Congrats to all.....Another successful upgrade to a T5300. Everything works perfectly, performance is spectacular compared to that celeron. Thanks to everyone for help. YOU ALL ROCK. I am now proud to have a 3680!!!!!!

I wonder if you could upgrade the wireless card to a wireless N...just an after thought.

    I LOVE MY NEW LAPTOP......."

Thanks Evolution! I opened the bottom of my laptop, removed a chunk of dust that was blocking the air vent with my fingers, and now my CPU speed is pretty stable! I just played 20 minutes of CS without getting any lag!

More to follow. I just have to find the posts where problems were solved and the original poster appreciated and acknowleged the advise given.

Thanks for the correct help given and problem(s) solved seems very rare.

People mainly use and rarely give something back or appreciate help given. That's the WWW.

Will keep looking for decency out there :)

    Cheers,
    Theo

Good one Phil. That's life. All it takes is someone to stick their neck out and post positive stuff to help instead of moaning.

@ krazy: Yet another success story. Good one mate. You started the ball rolling and we will back up to the hilt. Best Acer upgrade thread on the web bar none.

Two days ago I provided my own technical help in the form of replacing my now dead optical drive (DVD-rw\DL). The original optical drive that came with my notebook was a Panasonic OEM drive (Matsh!ta) these drives are rubbish (google them if you don't believe me) and usually only last a few months to 1 year at the most, I was lucky in that mine lasted ~14months. The drive failure I don't really blame on acer because HP, Toshiba, Sony and other manufacturers use these drives and users are getting the same problem of the drive laser failing after a few months. These drives should be avoided at all cost!

Anyway I replaced the original optical drive with a new Samsung(SN-S082H) DVD drive and it works beautifully. Upgrading was easy with my specific series in that I only had to remove 1 screw to actually get the optical drive out of it's bay. Then all I had to do from there was remove the drive caddy from the old drive and put it on the new drive and slot it back into the drive bay. Turned on the notebook and it was immediately detected in the BIOS as well as windows.
All of this was made easy because I have the service manual for the 5100 series. I cannot stress how important having the service manual is as it takes alot of the "guess work" out of the equation.

The next upgrade I want to do is hard drive but I am waiting to see what SSD prices look like when crucial.com releases them.

End of my posts. Basically, most newbies take and give nothing back.

Will see in a month's time.
