Suddenly my Acer TravelMate 5530 is not able to boot anymore. When I press the power button, the fan starts and the HD spins up. The power led lights up. However: Nothing more happens! Screen is 100% blank. Not even backlight. The machine does not boot up on the HD, so it seems it is not just the screen that is dead. I cannot even get into the BIOS.
The machine has 2 RAM blocks, I tried to take out one of the time and turn on power... Same result: No boot up and no screen. Tried to take out the HD, but no difference.
Some hardware inside must be broken. But which part?
I could send it in somewhere for repair, but not sure if it will cost too much compared to the price of a new laptop. My Acer TravelMate 5530 was an 800$ laptop some years ago.
Please advice me!

It does look like a motherboard failure at first glance.
Take a look at eBay and see how much would a second hand one cost. You could install it yourself to cut costs.
If that price is too high- there is no way doing it via a service center route would be any cheaper. -
For Acer TM5320 5530 Extensa 5430 Motherboard 48 4Z701 03M MBTPU01003 AMD Tested | eBay
Price $122 + $45 (shipping) = $167. Might actually be affordable, but still there might be a little risk that it will still not work... I'll consider it and if I buy and install it I'll comment here on how it went. -
True- it might not work but you can always re-sell it at a lower price and lose just the difference so it's worth the risk in my opinion.

1.) Laptop Motherboard FOR ACER Extensa 5320 TM 5530 MB.TPU01.003 (MBTPU01003) 48.4Z701.03M OLAN M/B 100% TSTED GOOD-in Motherboards from Computer & Networking on Aliexpress.com
2.) Free shipping High quality test AMD PM mbtpu01003 48.4Z701.02M TM5530 laptop motherboard for ACER Travelmate 5530 motherboard-in Motherboards from Computer & Networking on Aliexpress.com
that are cheaper. Regarding 1.) it is for the Extensa 5320 (and not the Travelmate 5530), but they have the same name (MBTPU01003) even though some of the latter letters (48.4Z701.02M vs. 48.4Z701.02M <-- actually it is 1.03M on the picture) differ. I might need to detach the broken motherboard in order to make sure I find an exact match.
