    Hi everyone.

I've had my Acer 5630 notepad for a week now. For spec for those interested go to http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=405221&cm_sp=FeatureEnd-_-Laptops-_-position1

On the second day of using it having had it on for a good 8 hours solid (uni coursework and surfing the net) the touchpad pointer suddenly stopped responding to any clicks (i.e left and right touch pad button). Basically, I was able to move the pointer wherever I wanted on the screen but I was not able to click on anything. At this point I freaked out because I had only had the laptop for a couple of days brand new and already something was failing. I then restarted the laptop and everything was fine. At this point I was hoping it was a one off and continued using it and it was fine. For the next 5 days everything was fine. Last night, however, the same thing happened again. The pointer would not click on anything so I had to restart it.

So my question is, do you folks have any idea why it does this?

I will contact Acer tomorrow to see what they say and perhaps suggest.

I had to replace my old Dell laptop because it became a pain so I'm a bit frustrated that this Acer replacement has already started! I hope it's not a sign of things to come as I was told Acer were a good reliable make. Anyway, lets see what Acer say.

Solution 1 - Check Whether Tapping is Enabled
Right click on the Synaptics Touchpad icon in the Taskbar/System Tray, and checkmark Tap to Click

Solution 2 - Check Whether Buttons are Correctly Mapped
    Left and Right Button configuration

Solution 3 - Update your Touchpad Drivers
    1) Download updated drivers from Synaptics: http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm
    2) Go into Add/Remove programs and uninstall Synaptics Touchpad
    3) Restart
    4) Install the updated drivers from Synaptics
    5) Restart
    6) Open up the settings page. You can find this in Control Panel --> Mouse --> Device Settings tab.
    7) You will now get a configuration window like you see in Solution 2.
    8) You will have to reconfigure the touchpad to tap as well as the buttons.

    9) Click OK.

If problem still exists, check the settings again and see if they have been modified.

It may also be that the Synaptics Touchpad program(s) have been closed. They run in the background. For default Acer installations I believe there are two (one if you are using the updated ones from Synaptics). The file is called SynTPEnh.exe, make sure that program is running in Task Manager, the other Synaptics program looks similar to that as well.
