My modem will not work. When I went into Device Manager, there were no COM ports loaded. I tried loading them and only got a COM8 port with a question mark through it. THe modem looks like it is looking for the COM3 port. I cannot seem to get a COM3 communications port loaded.

    What am I doing wrong?

In device manager you should see a modems section, click on it, it should say HDAUDIO Softdata Fax Modem... Click on it then click on Advance then click on Advanced Port Settings. You should see the com port assigned to the modem. You can also click on Diagnostic and click Query Modem to see if it's working.
