I bought an extra 1gb of PNY ram for my 5102wlmi. I ran memtest86 and only let it run through once and it came back with 10 errors. I took out the PNY and left only the samsung 1gb that the laptop came with and I forgot about it. It ended up running like 5 time with 37 errors. I'm trying to figure out if my laptop has ram problems or if memtest doesn't like it. I don't know if I should keep the extra 1gb or not or what my problems are. Please help

    thanks ,evan

If there is no instability, then I wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes, memory can bring up errors, and there may be no affect on the computer at all. I remember, I had a desktop, and I ran Memtest on it to check for errors. It brung up quite a few, but the computer ran without any glitches.

Ouch, sorry... I'd replace it. Do it before you start having problems. Errors in RAM can cause all kinds of problems. I had a stick of Crucial that had some errors in it (I never finished the whole test, as it takes like, a whole day) and man... the system was SO unstable.
Try to see if you can get a copy of Hiren's boot disc and do some other mem tests. It is possible that something else (maybe the memory controller) is bad and causing the errors.

I just reinstalled the PNY, and it hasn't given me any problems from when I had it in before, or since I put it back in. About replacing it though, only 1 of the 2 1gb sticks is new, the samsung came with the computer, and still put out errors, even more than with both in, and I have had it since black friday, and it hasn't given me any problems really, other than I hate how slow this thing boots up/shuts down. I'm not sure what to do. Is there anyway that I could warranty the original ram it came with, or test them in another laptop with memtest to just see if it is the computer doing it?

Let me tell you my story:
I had big problems with my new Aspire,BSOD's all day long, soundcard and modem would just stop working, reinstalling drivers would not help... I ran Memtest from Hiren's boot 8 disc and it showed that there are errors in RAM.
I send it back to Acer service (still under warranty) and they said they just flashed my BIOS and now my lappy is working OK.
What worryes me is that Memtest is still showing errors in RAM,I called Acer back and they told me that Acer hardware is not compatible with these tests, that they have their own tests .

I don't know if this is true and I am worried, but I hope for the best that's all I can do :) .

Maybe try the memory intensive test in Prime95 instead?
