Love my 8930G, but any browsers are giving me problems?

    I have Acer Aspire 8930G-844G32Bn (T8400 2.26Ghz, 4GB DDR3 and Nvidia 9700M GT 512MB)

I noticed when I opened up a browser like IE 7, it doesn't open up smoothly. It opens in a stuttering way, non-smooth like, etc. I tried other browsers like Opera and witnessed the same effect.

When open up like 'My Computer', 'Windows Media Player' or whatever... it opens up smoothly.

    Why is that?

I don't have any background programs running and it is fresh installed Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit.

Which parts are you describing as smooth and not smooth? Do you mean the window animation?

Also, try Google Chrome or Firefox, and do those open up smoothly?

Have you tried updating to IE8, this may solves your problems.

IE 8 installed and still stuttering.

Yes. I tried Chrome and even Opera too.

It only happened when open a browser.

As for anything else, very smooth to open.

Thanks for trying, but I've solved it by using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Any browsers now open and close with very smooth animation.

One word to express my feeling about Windows 7 is... OMG.

Makes Vista look like Windows ME.

    :)

Glad to fix your problem but you cannot blame Vista for that. Nobody else has that problem so it is possible that something else was wrong with the settings or a conflict with another software.
BTW you shouldn't compare your Vista installed with the 3rd parties software like the Acer bloatware to the fresh installation of Windows 7. When I fresh installed Vista with nothing else on it, my experience was completely different to when I got the laptop.

Hi, well I can compare both Vista and Win7 on my desktop and to be honest I notice little differences. If you setup Vista correctly then it is much the same as Win7 anyway the only difference is that Win7 looks kinda basic in some areas and of course it is less insecure than Vista...

For your information, all my Windows installations like Vista 32bit/64 bit, Windows 7 32bit/64bit are fresh without any of those Acer crapware.

Long before I installed any 3rd party software, I tested my laptop and noticed the sluggishness (not smooth) when using any browsers like IE 7/8 etc.

To be honest, after I installed a "fresh" copy of Windows 7 64bit, eventually the browser didn't open/copy smoothly like the Windows animation.

I'm getting the feeling that it could be a hardware issue like the memory stick?

Thank you for your suggestions, but I have found the solution.

This might be very useful information for you if you ever come across another customer who might have the same problem.

The problem I was having is when minimizing/maximizing a web browser (doesn't matter which browser it is), it caused it to stutter and the vertical scroll when scroll up/down a page was very chopping/stuttering.

The problem came from the Nvidia video card, which mine is a 9700M GT and Nvidia is using a throttling program called Powermizer. Now, the Powermizer set the video clock speed to the minimum level until you are doing more intense 2D/3D graphics, it will kick-in and the clock speed reached the maximum performance.

As soon as I opened up a browser, the video clock speed reached it max (to deal with the 2D effect), but it wasn't quick enough. It is too late by then.

To solve that, I used a program called Powermizer Switch to turn off the throttling function only under AC mode and on when in battery mode. You don't have to have it running in the background. Just set it and reboot.

No more 2D/3D stuttering or sluggishness.

Thanks, this definitely fixed my scrolling issues (not being smooth) in IE8 under Windows 7 x64. My only concern now is my GPU (9600M GT) sits at 60 Degrees Celcius when browsing the Internet.
