I was downloading an upgrade for the NTI CD/DVD 7 that came bundled on my 5715Z and the download deleted the software. I tried reinstalling it from my back up disc and it won't allow it saying there is an error. How in the heck do I get it back?

even with the disks,, if you've downgraded your OS to XP,,, the software that came installed (vista versions) don't seem to want to run in XP... atleast not on my machine...

i've switched to BurnAware... a free app you can DL from

    www.majorgeeks.com

good luck, and if you get NTI running message me with instructions please.

I've still got Vista as the OS, although this weekend I'm installing another harddrive and putting XP on it. I did make a backup disk, but the NTI OEM downloaded upgrade will no let me put the original program back on. On top of all of that, the download was only an upgrade to the OEM burning program, so I have no burning program now. :(

You're not the first and likely not the last. I'm so sick of Acer's crap!

Same thing happened to me. Downloaded the patch from Acer's site! and it did the same thing, deleted the entire program.

and i still have my os, and, i did make back up cd's and it did not re install it, AND, the restore can't restore it either! ACER SUCKS!

I'm on the phone with them right now and i'm going to read them this thread.

Ok figured out how to do it.

    open up empowering technology
go to the acer recovery system management
    go to restore (at bottom)
    click reinstall applications/drivers
    Click install
on left, click your operating system if the programs dont show up
then you should be able to see the program. in my aspire its cd maker, which was the nti program

Guess it's a little late to fix mine now. I went ahead and just reformatted the whole thing. Now every thing is running great. I did go ahead and installed a new harddrive and installed Windows XP. That is what I'm using now. I do appreciate the help.

Sorry to get late to this. The first time I reinstalled Windows, the Acer email support told me (basically) what dizzypeach suggested. The guy also said to register with the guys at NTI for when downloading upadates to it. I actually like NTI more than Nero, so this was important to me to restore it. Mind you this is on an older laptop than yours, but dizzypeach's advice does work on mine.
