I have had this laptop for almost 2 years now and all is great, except for the fact when ever I install Fedora on it; it just shuts down. I haven't changed a thing on the lappy, same RAM and CPU and all other specs. It does boot up but then it just crashes. I am thinking my little CPU can not handle the OS, I dunno. I just installed Ubuntu-9.10-Desktop on a Dell Latitude D410 lappy with a USB stick and it works like a charm; no crashing or anything... that computer is also all stock still.

So what should I do? I have XP Pro SP3 on my Acer now, but I really want some kind of Linux on here. When I installed the XP, I changed the driver booting thing in the BIOS because it wouldn't work how it was when it came with Vista.

I searched all over, but can't seem to get a good clean answer on what to do. Any suggestions?

Oh, and is there a big difference in these two, and if so; what would work better?
    Ubuntu-9.10-alternate-amd64
    Ubuntu-9.10-alternate-i386

My Acer Aspire does not have a Web Cam either, is the 5315-2122 version.

    Thanks you ;)

    Most likely ACPI issues.
I wanted to take a look at the BIOS but it is Insyde.
It will help if you can download RW-Everything and produce a RW-Everything Report.

Hey thanks, I'll give that a try.

I just found out that I was using Fedora-12-i686-Live, and I guess the i686 version is for 64 bit and higher CPU's. I can install the i386 OS and should be fine. On the Dell; I installed Ubuntu-9.10-Desktop- i386.

    For x86-compatible (32-bit):i386
    For x86_64(64-bit AMD64, EM64T):x86_64

You learn something new everyday I guess... I just noticed the difference last night and I am pretty sure that having the 64bit version on my lappy was the root of the problem. The Dell has the 32bit version and is doing fine. I'm gonna boot up with the 32bit after this post and let you know what happens. Thanks again :)!

EDIT: Using Ubuntu-9.10 32bit (i386) from USB boot right now and is everything is fine. Found the problem haha...
