I'm right on the edge of ordering an 8204. The ezDock is definitely a weighted factor for me now.

Can someone please describe it's pros and cons?

Are you finally able to login using an external DVI monitor? Has anyone figured out a profile that allows "hibernate on close" when not docked? What about Extended Desktops (using the laptop lcd and the external monitor simultaneously, uncloned)?

    Thanks.

CoolHotCold and fauzo, where you at? I read the thread about the ezdock and the 8204, but I never got the final story on whether you and others were able to sort out some of it's issues. I need the 411. ;)

The pros are that it has tons of ports and connects to the laptop with a single cable.

The cons are that I still have small usability issues with it. For example, when I used the DVI monitor connection, I had to do the windows sign-in screen on the laptop before it would output to the monitor. So I switched to VGA. Now, when I'm connected to my LCD, I of course want the laptop screen to be off, so I make that happen with the ATI utility, but then I forget and de-dock, and I can't turn on the screen. The FN keys don't do it, only the ATI utility which I obviously can't see now. Thus, a reboot, doh.

After having used a Dell, I also miss being able to turn the laptop power on via the dock, now I have to open the lid power it on, close the lid, etc.

My summation: It's better than no dock, but there are better docks.

Didn't someone post a solution on how to login using your external display and the DVI connector?
