Ok so the new Aspire TimelineX series (as3830t, as3830tg, as4830t, as5830t, as5830tg, etc) with the Sandy Bridge processors, uses the Intel HM65 chipset.

    I have the AS4830T-6642.

The HM65 chipset itself is capable of Sata 2 [revision 2 (Sata 3 Gbit/s)] and SATA 3 [revision 3.0 (SATA 6 Gbit/s)]. Unless Acer has turned off the Sata-3 capability, which some laptop manufacturers evidently are doing.

My question is, does the new Aspire TimelineX support Sata-3 6Gbit/s that is native to the included HM65 chipset or has Acer disabled this on our laptops?

I'm asking because I'm interested in a Sata-3 6Gbit/s SSD, but I don't want to waste my money on Sata-3 if the new TimelineX only supports Sata-2.

If Acer has made the new TimeLineX only Sata-2 then I would hope they would release a firmware upgrade to unleash the HM65 chipsets Sata-3 capability!

SATA 6 is native to the platform but whether acer wants to enable it, is another problem..

SATA 3 is enabled on my 3830TG. Using an OCZ Agility 3 and getting 500 mb/s read and write.

Oh nice! Makes me feel more confident that Acer hasn't tampered with the Sata-3!

BTW how is your OCZ Agility 3?

Works great, no issues so far. I flashed the latest firmware and secure erased the drive with the linux bootable tools before using it. Great performance and a great price, got the 120gb for $170 after rebate.
