I have an aspire 9300, when i'm using it, every so often it will randomly pause and the entire unit wont respond and then it will start working fine again and carry on as normal; this happens on mains and battery.

I was thinking that maybe the hard drive is causing it but i dont have a clue really... has anyone else experienced this or had it and solved the issue.

I really don't have a clue either, the first thing I would have thought is maybe your harddrive was randomly going into PIO mode, but I doubt that is the case perhaps one of the ram modules is going/gone bad (I am speculating here). You could try doing a scan for any viruses or spyware that might be hidden on your notebook somewhere, other than that I am stumped.

I've pretty much ruled out all of this as it did it just after a system restore, there are no hard drive errors and the unit is locked down as far as viruses are concerned.
i've not checked the ram but my unit passed test at the repair centre and i'm happy with that as i know what tests they perform.
i am tempted to say that the hard disk could be at fault; i'm currently updating my drivers and i've installed the amd dual core optimizer; hopefully that'll sort everything out.
