I need help guys. I cannot install catalyst 10.7 (or any ATI driver for that matter of fact) over the Acer drivers. I have done the specific methods that have been mentioned on these forums.

    1. Install Acer drivers while in switchable mode (if they aren't already installed). Reboot to complete process.
    2. Reboot again and change to discrete mode in BIOS. Install ATI drivers. Reboot to complete process.
    3. Reboot again and change to switchable mode in BIOS.

Every time I've tried step 2, the ATI installer (Custom, I never choose Express install) will detect that the Acer drivers (8.713.3.3000) are installed and are the most upto date as show below

I have tried both the ATI mobility drivers and the standard catalyst drivers. This happens in both factory restore and a FRESH install of Windows 7 64bit.

It may or may not be related but my hardware IDs are
    in switchable mode:
    in discrete mode:
Does anybody have any ideas? Also, can users post whether or not they have been able to install ATI drivers and what their hardware IDs are? Perhaps there's a correlation?

I've had two people respond to me with regards to hardware IDs

fongwu on here and another user on Whirlpool (Australian forum) have the same hardware IDs on their 4820TG's and they both can install Catalyst 10.7 using the discrete mode solution

can I get some more responses please?

When you installed the default Acer drivers, did you get them from the Acer support website?

If you choose Windows 7 Home Premium x64, there are 2 ATI/AMD video drivers and 1 Intel video driver from Acer's download page.

Make sure you install the one that's named something like:
    VGA AMD (version number 8.713.3.3000)
Do not use the ones that say:
VGA ATI (version number 8.692.1.0) or VGA Intel.

Let the install finish and reboot into Windows. You should see the switchable mode enabled with Catalyst 10.6.

Reboot again and go into BIOS to change to Discrete only.

Install the Mobility Catalyst 10.7 directly from ATI. Let the install finish and reboot. Once you have 10.7 fully installed. Reboot again and change BIOS back to Switchable.

Is it possible to upgrade ATI driver on Timeline 4810TG using the same method?
