    hi,

cant find proper drivers for IDE controller for Aspire 1662 and i cant identify the chipset any way. there is nothing on acer support page.

please if you know more about his issue, i will appreciate your help..

in my device manager there is stated: Standard dual controller, what is imo not really good and my harddrive is getting stuck sometimes for 1 sec and really dunno why

Could let windows update look for ones. I would think there would be something on the driver/recovery CD.

Hi, try here http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-009245.htm for chipset identification software, you then might be able to find the correct drivers....

    Try this:

    ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_1660/

Is there any chipset drivers on the CDs. Sometimes ide drivers are contained in there.

thx chriscatt...according to that Lavalys soft, i have ATI radeon 9100 IGP chipset, Northbridge: ATI RS300 and southbridge: ATI SB200
    .....never heard of it....
i have Pentium 4 HT 3.00 Ghz processor, and why im looking for a driver for IDE?

cuz, in device manager its stated Standard Dual Controller, which is imo standard windows xp driver, whats not the best you can get. And primary ide channel controller got resource conflict with motherboard resources, cant get rid of it (dont want to reinstall the whole thing).
And, my harddrive acts sometimes wierd, i can see the led on and whole comp freezes for one sec, then it gets back to normal, happens a lot, especially during playing games. So i though to update or upgrade IDE drivers to get rid of the resource conflict and maybe this way solve the problem, cant think about anything else.
and there is not a single driver for chipset or IDE on CDs that came with notebook, or on sites that are posted in this thread.

Hi again, I would have thought that Sanda Software would have had no problems identifying your chipset. Have you tried this utility http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?page=product&view=1&subpage=1 What processor have you got and why do you think you need IDE drivers?

Hi again, there other manufacturers who use that chipset, gigabyte, shuttle etc, but I'm not sure if they have drivers, and, whether they would work with yours. One thing is, have you always had that problem, or has it started recently, anything in your event viewer?

i installed catalyst 5.3 that seems to be right for IGP 9100, its working so far, but resource conflict still there, but i have no longer standard ide controller, but ATI IDE controller.
Anyway, have to test it further, but no time for it now. thx for your help

Hi, yes the 5.3's will work fine for your graphics card, what do you mean by resource confict, have you a exclamation mark? XP does share resources and usually all is happy...
