Well its been 6 months since Ive had a laptop.

Mine broke so I sent it back to acer, it was 2gig ram, centrino duo core, and a ati graphic card (sorry I cant rememer the model) it was top of the line back in late 2006.

They sent me a downgrade model which didnt even work, so I sent it back.

They then offered me the Aspire 6920 which I accepted, but then they sold the one they had it stock so they couldnt give it to me.

The other day they offered me the Gateway M-6862 which is a slight downgrade, and today they called back saying it became unavailable.

Today they offered me the Aspire 7520 which I know nothing about, seemed like ANOTHER downgrade so I said NO.

Thoughts on the 7520 or any thoughts on what I should do, this is so stupid that its been 6 months!!!

The 7520 with 3gig ram and the Nvidia 8400 thats all I know.

My old model im not sure sorry all my paper work was sent to Acer and I cant find my copies. I, pretty sure it was the Aspire 5670. It was top of the line in late 2006, good for gaming 15.4" Ati card, 2gig ram, centrino duo core.

Tell them how long it's been and how much trouble they have caused you, so they may give you an even better notebook :)

It's a shame how customer service has taken a backseat over the past couple years. People are commiting hundreds if not thousands of their hard-earned dollars and yet these manufacturers don't take the time to ensure that their customers are completely satisfied with the products. Not only are they making it a headache for all of us who buy their sometimes faulty equipment, but they are losing their otherwise loyal customers to thier competition. It's just a shame, really.

Acer is known for having horrible tech support ;)
My advice, get the replacment laptop from acer>sell it>buy a dell.
Dell has great Tech support and can replace your laptop within a week if there is a problem.

    huh?!

My experiances with acer have been great!
My sister broke her screen, it was like a 3 week time from when i sent it out to when it came back (maybe a little less) and when she bent her power supply they sent a new one out (without me sending the old one) and it came in 4 days.

Where as dell i have only ever dealt with crap (cep't one time xD)

The fact is ive been waiting 6 months.
I paid for shipping the laptop back.
I've paid for the phone call's ive made and recieved.
Ive wasted 8 hours of my life.

They offered me the Aspire 6920 which is a good upgrade, then they downgrade twice DUE TO THEIR FAULT, both times the laptops were sent to others because they dropped the ball on their end.

At the VERY least they should give me a substantial upgrade....hell they should just send me a brand new top of the line unit to get me off their back.

You're right about that, you should receive some compensation for all the troubles. I guess you should keep fighting, and may I suggest you start to threaten them with a lawsuit or something, tell them you want to speak with someone in charge etc.

Just say no until they give you something better. Otherwise, keep saying no.
Also, idk if you tried, but ask to talk to a supervisor, explain all the troubles you have gone through too

    Then go over their heads!
Mention the word "lawyer" or "lawsuit" or "Better Business Bureau," and watch them scurry.
I worked for a notebook computing company before (started with L), and as soon as someone threatened legal or BBB complaints, they got sent straight to people who bent over backwards to placate them.
Try it with Acer - who knows?

Hi, sorry to hear about your experiences with your Acer, however are you sure you are actually dealing with Acer support? I do not believe that Acer would offer a Gateway as a replacement and I've never come across this. It does sound like you are dealing with a retailer, thus I'd suggest you go to Acer's directly. I've always found the to be fairly efficient and prompt at performing repairs...

Well, keep in mind that Acer does own Gateway.
It'd be like Alienware offering an HP as a temporary replacement.

Hi, of course but I've never heard of Acer itself being out of stock with it's own laptops. However, it does smack of very poor customer relations, it maybe that it is a a 'franchised' repairer, even so Acer themselves need to made aware that this is all very unsatisfactory...

maybe this is why acer laptops are so cheap..imagine! they sell a 8930-7665 (q9000 quad core 2.0 ghz, 4 gb ddr3, 9700mgt, 500 gb, bluray player) just for 1800USD!! same spec goes like 3000USD if it's qosmio

    Any ideas on this?

I told them no, now they seem to be getting angry with me and saying "this is your last offer and this is the best we can offer you" I said ill wait. I also mentioned that im going to the BBB.

Hi, I dunno, but if they are offering you a brand new laptop for a three year old one, and it seems to me similar specs, what's the issue? Are you dealing with Acer direct or a franchised dealer?

Where in the world are you located, Matt? That might determine whether you're dealing with Acer directly or an authorized service center. There IS a difference in the level of support.

Acer direct. Thing is ive waited 6 months and they have offered me two good laptops as replacements then screwed up twice and said they became unavaliable. Its like being offered a mercedes then being told they can only give you a chevy lol.

I am in Canada, should I go to where I purchased my laptop?

OK, Acer Canada should be able to supply you with a replacement.
They're jerkin' you around for some reason. Get names, get writing, lawyer up.

get whatever you can, then sell it. buy something else. I had the same problem with HP. im now running acer notebooks, I am typing right now on a travelmate 2300 that I upgraded myself with a P4 745 and 2 gigs of ram, as well as a 120 gig HD, works great, at work I use a 7650 core 2 duo, 3 gigs of ram and 320 gig hd and again flawless...

Thats what im going to do. I would go with a acer again but they just turned me off. Im going to go with a Mac Book Pro im pretty sure, that or a HP but ive heard some bad things about HPs although I really like them. Im leaning towards the mac though!

theres a downgrade for ya. mac book. ha ha.

I had one HP that caused me greif tho. no wireless, sent back for service. new motherboard, no wireless. traded it on my acer and been happy ever since.

I would stay away from macbooks, they are not as problem free as all the mac croonies say they are. and when they go down, your screwed.

just some advice from someone in the know.

ahhh, that depends...but i agree with you for the graphic design to a point. however, PC has pretty well every program that mac uses for graphics as well.

I am a photographer, they all told me to use mac for photo editing etc. however, I am pc only and I got all the programs to edit, catalog, print and everything else as well...for 1/3 the price of a similarly spec'ed mac PC....

    Just something to consider.

it might sound funny, but get a dell with extended warranty, they have awsome customer service. I had a dell inspiron p3 800, and if I had any problems, questions etc, they were quick to fix.

and the xps series notebooks are killer really.

Demand that they give you the 6920 they originally offered. They have to have more than one of them :D
You might want to start recording the calls. Depending on where you live you'll probably have to inform them that you're doing that at the beginning of the call to be legal.

I'm a web developer. A lot of designers seem to be hooked on Mac, but I think it's just peer pressure or cool factor or something silly... IMO, power is what is important.

You need a system with a high end graphics card, lots of memory and the ability to run all the adobe product line. A PC will do that just fine, and a Heck of a lot cheaper... When I've looked at the Mac lines I've been supremely unimpressed by the graphic cards they offer in machines close to 2k.

oh yeah, its all about image. You can get a PC system with better specs, for 1/3 of a similar spec'ed mac. over rated for sure. Mac lemmings at their finest, pressuring people to "buy Mac"
