hello all, i have acer 8930g 644g32mn and was wondering if its fully HD. it says 1080playbak 16:9 cinematic or somat. i checked my screeen resolution and its 1680 x 945 :( so that means its not fully HD???

secondly i upgraded to windows 7 vie acer upgrade kit, not am having problems, when i swith my laptop off it wont shut off properly i see a blue screen for a few seconds and then it suddenly goes off, when i turn it on then i get a message like start windows normaly which appears if u just shut it off via the button. i think mavcafee is causing it, when i did a full scan it quarantined some files after that the laptop is actin a lil funny, this doesnt mean is macafee, i got malwarebytes and that did the same in fact iit messed it up completely than god i could do system recovery lol the laptop wudnt turn on.

and lastly how come acer empowering technology doesnt work any more i downloaded on it just crashes i dont think itrs compatible with win 7, any one know where i can get one from plzz.

    thanks

@hollinshead: That was mean. Better to not say anything next time.

@w4533m: The 1080p sticker just means that your laptop is capable of displaying 1080p resolution (like on an external monitor or HDTV), not that your built-in monitor has that resolution. You can still play 1080p content, but your system will scale it down to match your screen resolution. And technically, HD content is anything higher than 1280x720 (720p).

Not sure about the blue screen when shutting down - run some Google searches, or call Acer Support for advice.

As for Empowering Technology, I just stopped using it. It's a waste of space and memory in my humble opinion (except eRecovery, but I only used that to burn recovery and drivers DVDs). Get the latest Windows 7 version here if you want.

My laptop (6930G) also displays the sticker FULL HD 1080 (with playback in tiny writing underneath). I thought this was very missleading since the laptop's built-in screen is only 1366x768 - in my opinion Acer should make this clearer. Non of the Acer Empowering Technology software works on Windows 7 for me (error message during install of empowering technology not compatible with this version of windows).

Don't worry about it too much, w4533m. Most of Empowering Technology duplicates functionality already in Windows 7, from Power to Audio. To be honest, your system is better without it.

The only essential bit of Empowering Tech that's handy is eRecovery, and that's only for burning your factory default recovery DVDs. If you've done that under Vista already, there's no need for EmpTech. Just make a backup using Windows' own Backup and Restore Center, and include a System Image. Go Google about the B&R Center, it's quite the spiffy little tool.

If you have 1080p written on the laptop, then it must have a display resolution of 1920x1080

Try installing latest graphics drivers from Nvidia and increase your display resolution.

    yeah my 8930g had a native res of 1920x1080 not 1680 x 945
so you have it set wrong if its the 18.4in screen

Not every 89xxG model has the 1080p display panel - a good chunk have 1680x945.
However, they do have a Full HD 1080p Playback sticker which confuses things.
As I said above, the sticker just means the thing can handle 1080p content on a 1080p screen - doesn't mean that the one that's built-in is.

Go to start> all programs > acer > empowering technology > acer empowering technology

Right click the file and click troubleshoot compatibility.

    Follow the on screen instructions.

It should then all work fine.

Your GeForce should automatically detect the maximum screen resolution.
If it's 1920x1080, you've got a 1080p screen. If not, you don't. End of story.
And yes, you have the 9M Series for Notebooks. Hence, 9600 M GT.

Hey thanks guys, Teh u wer right my laptop doesnt have it  it says on the box HD+ so its not hd.

another problem has cropped up :( instead of making a new thread i will post here.

u know acer 8930 has them multimedia sound control thing on the left side of the laptop. they dont work properly i change the sound and it doesnt work i mean the sound stays the same but i can mute hold and stuff.

another thing i noticed is on the sound thing its got + and - if i touch + it will make it go up i have to keep it pressed or keep pressing it, same with -. before it used to work properly :( do i need some kind of drivers?

You need the Dritek Launch Manager software - that controls the CineDash/media control schmengie. Get it from Acer's download page here. If the Windows 7 version doesn't work, install the Vista one instead.
