I've got a acer aspire 5315 and i think the hdd's screwed. It won't load anything. It gets post the acer screen then nothing.

I've put a vista disk in to see if it picks up the HDD and nothing, i've also used a program called killdisk to see if it picks it up and nothing. It says on killdisk error (16) reading sector 24351464 on 1:

So is it my HDD, i'm gonna go and biuy a new one, but just wanted to see what you guys thought???

I'd send it back to Acer as it's still under warranty but i've sorted of upgraded it lol!!! (Also i've not backed it up so i've lost everything, but i have a vista disk i can use so no issues there, just gonna be a pain getting everything back again.

Does the HDD show up in the BIOS ??
    Try re-connecting the HDD.
Does it make any weird clicking noises ?

if kill disk makes it part of the way through the disk erasing option, and then errors out at a specific sector,,, then you have a bad HDD

call ACER.... have your CREDIT CARD handy.... tell them you have tested it with the software from the drive manufacturer, and it reports surface erros...

then ask for an ADVANCE REPLACEMENT,,, they put a hold on your CC for the cost of the drive,, but will remove the charge once you send the old drive back to them..

and it keeps you from having to ship the whole PC back

I've replaced the hdd, got one pretty cheap, couldn't wait.

When i ran killdisk it wouldn't even get part the way through, wouldn't even register the disk.

Anyhow, all sorted now, now to re-install all of the drivers etc, oh what joy.

now call acer and get them to send you a replacement...

since you are in no hurry... just get an RMA #... send in the old drive and wait for a new one to arrive.... that way you have a SPARE... or buy a cheap USB ENCLOSURE and have a portable HDD :D
