Had an issue shortly after getting my 5920G with the hd dvd, but then I updated the firmware and it worked.

Just got the hd dvd "Transformers" and went to play when I got the message "critical component needed". Something from Cyberlink came up and said there was a patch that I had to download, so I did. Thirty minutes later, I get the message that "the content is protected and can not be played in the current display mode". After a couple of reboots, I still could not get it to play. I then tried one of my other HD DVD's that I know work and I get the same message.

Is there a HDCP setting that I am missing? Or is there a OS compatibility issue? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Dave

Have you updated your video drivers with anything that isn't WHQL certified, like the ones from LaptopVideo2Go or hacked ATI desktop drivers (hacked to make them work for laptops that is)? Are you trying to play them on an external monitor, or the internal notebook one?

I have the same problem after my upgrade to HD DVD drive. It's nothing to do with video drivers (I've tried them all). This stupid update from Cyberlink did not work for me. The only way around I could find is to run AnyDVD in the background. To be honest it's getting on my nerves because even with AnyDVD it skips a little bit after every 20 min. Why there is no proper support for new HD DVDs? What is a point to have HD DVD drive on this laptop if you can't use it properly?

That is exactly how I feel! Instead of watching Transformers with my son, he got a lesson in hardware/driver frustration.

Greg, I am using 7.15.11.6344 for my video driver. I have played hddvds since downloading this driver, so I don't think it is the problem. Have not tried to play a DVD, but I am going to try that now. When it said "protected content", that led me to believe there may ba a HDCP issue.

Also, I have played HD dvd's on my laptop by itself and hooked into my widescreen tv successfully before, using HDMI.

Replaced the vid driver with the one on the Acer driver download site and everything is ok.

which driver version do you use now? do you use Acer Arcade Deluxe or Cyberlink PowerDVD for dvd playback? I've tried 4 different drivers without success. Now I am downloading the latest update drom Cyberlink.

Hey Borland, I am using 7.15.11.119 for the driver. That is the stock driver. I had upgraded to a modded driver from laptop2go, but had probs with HD DVD playback. Went onto Acer's site and reinstalled the stock driver. HD DVD's play great now. I had also updated the firmware from HP's website. That fixed the prob I originally had with the drive not recognising discs. Search my other posts if you need that.

For playback I am using Acer Arcade Deluxe, which in turn uses Power DVD, to play the HD DVD. Very frustrating, but it is working good, for now.

Thanks. I can playback some old HD DVD but I'm still stuck with the TRANSFORMERS HD DVD no matter what I try. Do you have the Transformers DVD?

Yes, I have the HD DVD "Transformers". When it first starts, it is looking for an update for the web-enabled content, and it never finds it. I just press the enter key and it skips that and goes into the movie menu.

Have you done the firmware update?

I've just updated firmware - still no luck. Power DVD asks for update and when you click OK it asks again... Acer's Arcade Deluxe asks for update and then stops working. I am getting fed up and thinking about giving up on HD DVD and sticking with my PS3 Blu Ray. No Transformers on Blu Ray however... Bugger...

Has anyone been able to get the Web-enabled features to work with Cyberlink or Acer Arcade Deluxe?

I can access web-features for some movies but not Transformers. Driving me nuts cause the features look cool in this movie. I keep getting a 0010 error which means it can't connect to the net.. Why can others movies connect and this one can't?

I had to download an update to get it to read. I know you said it worked once.. did you ever get the update?

I just wish I could get the web-enabled content to load.. it says player can't connect but it can with other movies.

Yea...I did this is what happened...it worked...got to the main menu...I went downstairs to get stuff...came back...the program froze...took out the disk...put it in again...won't read anymore.

I've even tried totally reformatting the computer...didn't work...

Man, that sucks.. sounds like a drive issue to me... Have you tried the HP-21 firmware update available above? I know i'm grasping at straws here as it sounds like you are doing everything right...

Nope...nothing...it tells me its a blank disk..
I don't see how its a drive isssue though...I mean it plays DVDs and CDs perfectly and used to play World Trade Center on HD DVD
If it was a drive issue...wouldn't it not play anything?

ya.. probably wouldn't play anything I guess... that's weird.. kinda unexplainable.. like why my drive won't connect to download web-features for this movie but it will for all others...
