I've looked through the i-net but could not get any info where to buy HD DVD for 5920. I know that 5920 does not have High Def screen but I would like to use it for my full HD TV. I don't want to use the X-Box-360 HD drive.

good question .....you will prob have to wait till someone whos took apart there 5920 and has noted the make/part no ....and see if you can get hold of a oem part

im upgrading my tv soon to a hd set and will be using my notebook as a media centre so it could be a worthwhile upgrade for me price pending of course

WOW, thanks. I can only guess it would fit as Toshiba is the first manufacture to offer HD DVD drive for laptops and to be honest I don't know who else makes them... also the size of the bay on the 5920 seems to be just right - 12.7 mm... The only problem is that I am likely to be hit by the import duty here in the UK...

I could not find anything. But I've installed AnyDVD with HD support and Power DVD Deluxe is working fine! No luck with Acer Arcade Deluxe however!

Great job on your solution! Sorry i wasn't able to help much :p

Do keep us posted on your HD-DVD viewing experience though. Would really be nice if i can get my hands on a HD-DVD drive too and give HD-DVD a shot :)

Borland, care to list out your Acer Gemstone model number too, just wanna compare and see if my 5920G-302G16 is upgradable ;)

    Thanks a bunch.

Yep, this is my model. My understanding is that any 5920 can be upgraded with HD DVD drive as the bay size is the same as well as the interface so should not be a problem. 5920 does not have full HD screen but it is fully capable to give 1080P picture on my 42" Sharp and it looks as good as blu ray from my PS3. Have not connected sound to my THX system yet. I am afraid my wife will kill me for these trailing cables...

Wonderful! Thank you for the insight too ;) It's just a shame that my local acer agent ain't bringing in the HD-DVD model.

Okie Dokie, i'm off to ebay for my new toy :D
