My Ferrari's LCD is not stable at lower brightness levels. For example, when I unplug from a/c screen brightness wll lower and a buzzing noise will start along with screen flickering. After about 1 minute the backlight will turn off. If I hold it at the right angle I can see that the image is displayed on the LCD but there is no backlight to show it. Additionally, the backlight will sometimes not turn on at startup. I have not contacted Acer as yet - I'm afraid of what they may say! Does anyone here know why my backlight is acting up? (The first day I received it the backlight wouldn't turn on as I was registering for windows)

Sounds bad. I think the screen might be defective - keep the notebook off to avoid damaging it further. Call Acer right now and explain this to them. They will replace the screen under warranty.

    Bruce,

There's 2 possible solutions for this type of problem:

    1. The FL inverter (coverts power to something a flourescent tube can use) is defective. I have seen this issue before and replacing the FL Inverter usually fixes the problem.

    2. The other possible solution is that the backlight is defective and needs to be replaced. In this case, the entire LCD will be swapped out as the backlight is integrated into the LCD.

In most cases, I believe Acer will replace both parts (other users indicated Acer replacing both parts for similar screen issues).
