This is my first posting, so i hope it goesin the right section.

When i connect the ezDock to the notebook, the default screen resolution changes from:
    1680 x 1050 to a horrible 1400 x 1050.

When i remove the ezDock, the resolution returns to normal.

This seems to be a bit of a backward step.
Has anyone any idea why this happens ??
Has anyone got the same problem ??

Well that is interesting...are there any settings you can change for the ezDock? Such as preferences, etc.

Is it possible to change the screen res back to 1680x1050 when the dock is plugged in?

    Chaz

    Thankyou for your reply.
Having spent a few hrs looking into this, i think i have been "staring at the problem" without realising it.

I have a Viewsonic VP201b (1600 x 1400) monitor from my previous PC which i have been testing and trying to connect to the Dock... first via DVI cable and secondly via Analog cable.

I believe that the problem has something to do with the fact that the LCD panel is 4:3 and the notebook 16:9. In this respect, there are some technicalities which cause this automatic shift in resolution. If the monitor cable is disconnected, i dont have this problem... and i can maintain the 1680 x 1050 notebook resolution irrespective if the Dock is in or out.

The Analog connection works but does not do the otherwise excellent VP201b panel any justice since its excellent native 1600 x 1400 resolution cannot be obtained and the picture is incorrectly sized.
On the other hand, the DVI connection is problematic and i get the "Blue Screen of Death" with the error ati2dvag error dumping memory. Again, most probably due to resolution issues.

However, i do need a large screen external monitor.
I have been looking at the VP231wb 16:9 LCD but its native resolution is 1900 x 1200 and again out of the reach of the x700 graphic card so this may not be a good choice.

Would i be correct in concluding that i need an external 16:9 LCD panel with a 1680 x 1050 native resolution in order to get the maximum out of an external monitor and notebook.

    Any help would we welcome.

    Regards
    WAJ

You should try updating your video drivers - sounds like you're having a software issue connecting to the external via DVI.

Get the latest Mobility Catalyst drivers from driverheaven.net. Uninstall the old ones first - let me know how you make out!

As for the resolution - the X700 is perfectly capable of handling 1920x1200. It can handle up to QXGA (2048x1536).

    Thanks again.

I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers.
After some configuration, i was able to switch between external LCD (Analog only !!) and the Notebook LCD whilst maintaining the desired resolution.

When i dock / un-dock, the display switches as it should.

The DVI connetion is still problematic and shows a large amount of onscreen interference irrespective, so i will stick with analog.

A further discovery is that my USB Plantronics DSP500 headset (latest drivers) has clicking noise on the audio/ record/ playback chanels when used from the Ez-Dock USB port. When i use it from the laptop USB ports, its fine.

I have not tested any other features.

Glad to see installing the new drivers worked!

Yeah, might just be an issue with the connection for the audio issue...

BTW that is a very nice docking station - Acer ezDock. Very cool. ;)

    Well done.
I updated the Realtek 97 audio drivers via a link from this site and the clicking noise has dissapeared.

I can now run everything from the Ez Dock.
Yes its a very nice dock and it has many useful and interesting features.

    Thankyou for helping me out.
