I have an Acer Aspire 3503WLC. It's pretty slow and doesn't get very hot, but still the fan runs every other minute, when the computer is doing absolutely nothing. The air comming out is not even very warm, so it shouldn't be necesarry.

Is there a program or a way to stop the fan from running that much? The only thing I can find in all the setup, is a place to make the fan run constantly. But I don't want it to run at all, unless the computer is actually doing some work.

I tried Notebook Hardware Control, but that doesn't let me control anything, only read the temp.

If no setup can change it, Might it then be possible to change the ran to a more silent one. I thought about putting a resistor for it to run slower, but then letting it run constantly, so it would be constant, but less noise.

Well, the fans have to run in order for the notebook not to overheat - I'm sure you know that. I always let the BIOS control the fans automatically...that way I can't mess up.

You could try SpeedFan, see if that will work for you.

Have you thought about getting a cooling pad? Vantec makes great aluminum ones.

I know, but it seems to me that the fan cools more than necesarry. Luckyly the fan is not very noice, but it gets enoying anyways though. I tried SpeedFan, but it doesn't let me control anything either, only read the temp.

I didn't know about those coolingpads. It looks usable. I have to look into that. Thanks.
