*background info* skip if you want, nothing important concerning problem

I got this computer from a family member who didnt need it. He bought it new, and all he did was enter his name. I tried to change the name to mine, but had problems doing so. I tried to change the folder from his name to mine, but coudnt. so I created a new one with my name and moved the files to the new folder. Afterwards I was trying to save a snipp in "pictures" in my folder. it said I lacked admin power to do that, and asked if I wanted to save it under "pictures". I tired that, but it didnt work. also, open office wasnt working either.

    *end background*

I was told to do a clean install, as it would solve my software problems as well as remove the bloatware. I looked for restore CD's, but couldnt find any. I also realized that I would lose the Acer Empowering Technology. I really like the Acer software, and would really want to keep it.

How Can I save the Acer software, and is there any other software I need that came with the computer before I wipe it clean?

Unlike other manufacturers (Dell,Hp etc) acers don't come with unneeded bloatware so forget about that term when it comes to acer notebooks. The only trail software you get is norton antivirus and that comes on a separate disc which you can choose not to install.

Anyway if you press ALT+F10 at the POST screen (screen that says acer when you first turn the notebook on) it will initiate the recovery process which will allow you to reinstall windows as it was from the factory. Doing this will also give you back all of the acer software that you want. The fully functioning OEM software that comes pre-installed with acer notebooks is actually usable; you will not find any trail software pre-installed. The OEM copy of powerDVD as well as the NTI CD/DVD burning software are quite useful. Outside of the 2 of them there is nothing but the acer empowering utilities which you don't mind.

So go ahead and do the factory restore you won't get any problems with bloat :) . Also don't forget to make the restore DVDs using acer erecovery; when you reinstall windows you will be prompted to make them as most manufacturers now don't send out recovery discs anymore, the user has to make them.
