Greetings all, after much hemming and hawing between a Dell Vostro and an HP something, I ended up buying this Acer Aspire AS7741G-6426 (formally known as the AS7741G-7017) on Amazon; crazy, I know! :D

It should be arriving by the end of the week, but just today I realized that even though there's no firewire, there should be an expresscard slot, right? Maybe....wrong?

From Amazon's details there is none; Acer's site is sorely lacking in info. But I see someone selling replacement expresscard cards online for this exact model, so maybe there's a chance?

Thanks for any info, and if there is a slot, would you mind posting a photo?

There's no Express Card slot as shown in these pictures

Pictures are for 7741Z but the chassis is the same and you can see that there's no place for it left so 7741G doesn't have it either.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
Too bad it's to deliver bad news, but c'est la vie! I still think I'm going to enjoy it, albeit not being able to copy over some old DV tapes...
BTW, why have so many manufacturers stopped putting in firewire and/or expresscard slots? Or am I just showing my age?

Most people don't use neither FireWire nor ExpressCard (and earlier PCMCIA) so budget laptops are offered without them.
It makes sense form their point of view- if rarely anyone uses it but all laptops are equipped with those ports- it's money thrown away.

Yeah, I guess I see what you mean. It's true that as both were like an afterthought for me it's unlikely that I'd ever use either, but I like to have that "just in case" insurance ;)
Oh, and hey, thanks again for the quick and efficient reply!
