The battery in my Acer 5920 laptop used to last for about 3 hours. Recently when unplugged from the mains it enters into hibernation or sleep mode after about 50 minutes despite the battery indicator saying there is something like 50%+ of battery life left.

When I then plug the laptop back into the mains, it reports that only 5% of battery left and starts recharging from there.

This could be cause by the fact I left my laptop for 2 months with the battery in during the summer holidays where the battery was fully charged but was drained and unresponsive when I got back. I managed to get it working again, by repeatedly inserting it and air dusting all the connectors, but has this caused any damage to the battery that is salvageable?

Previous to the summer, the battery was fine at holding charge. But something is definitely wrong now. Will I need to purchase a new battery? It's best I know now before buying any Christmas presents ;)

    Thanks.
